Governor Evers Proposes Scholarship to Support Wisconsin AmeriCorps Members Following their Service in 2025-27 Executive Budget
Governor Tony Evers reaffirmed his commitment to service and education in Wisconsin by proposing a state scholarship in his 2025-2027 Executive Budget to match the AmeriCorps education award. This initiative aims to support the education of those who have made a positive impact on Wisconsin communities through AmeriCorps service. The scholarship would provide financial assistance to AmeriCorps members who use their federal Segal Education Award at Wisconsin universities, colleges, and technical colleges.
Each year, more than 1,100 AmeriCorps members dedicate their time and talents to serving Wisconsin communities in critical areas such as education, conservation, health care, addiction recovery, disaster response, and nonprofit support. Their contributions strengthen local efforts and improve lives across the state.
“From supporting our kids and communities to upholding our proud tradition of conservation and protecting Wisconsin’s vital natural resources, AmeriCorps members have consistently demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to service that has paid dividends in our state over the years,” said Gov. Evers. “Through this new scholarship program, we are working to support members’ success just as they have selflessly supported others and encourage folks to pursue service as a pathway to build a future on.”
Jeanne Duffy, Executive Director of Serve Wisconsin, emphasized the impact of AmeriCorps service: “Each year, AmeriCorps members provide over one million hours of service at more than 300 locations across Wisconsin. Their work benefits local communities and helps members develop valuable skills for careers in education, health care, construction, and other high-demand fields. A scholarship to match the federal education award could help bridge the gap between service and higher education, supporting Wisconsin’s workforce needs.”
