Governor Evers approves I-894 project, construction to begin this week
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers has signed a $59.7 million contract for a multi-year improvement project along I-894 in Milwaukee County, from 84th Street to 35th Street. The WIS 36 (Loomis Road) bridge over I-894 will also be reconstructed as part of this project.
Project Improvements
- Resurfacing of freeway lanes and ramps
- Reconstructing medians
- Improving drainage systems, guard rails, lighting, and sign structures
- Pavement repairs and maintenance at four local roads and bridges at I-894 (84th Street, 68th Street, 51st Street, 35th Street)
- Full reconstruction of WIS 36 (Loomis Road) bridge over I-894 in 2024
2023 Traffic Impacts
- Overnight lane and ramp closures for pavement repairs
- Construction is scheduled to pause from late fall 2023 to early spring 2024
2024 Traffic Impacts
- Overnight lane and ramp closures on I-894 to complete pavement repairs
- Long-term full closure of WIS 36 (Loomis Road) bridge and ramps
- Long-term lane closures on I-894 for median reconstruction
- Long-term local road closures at 51st Street and 35th Street
The entire project is scheduled for completion in fall 2024. Work is weather dependent and subject to change.
