Gov. Evers Commends WHEFAs 2025 Achievements in Supporting Wisconsin Nonprofit Organizations

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today recognized the Wisconsin Health and Educational Facilities Authority (WHEFA) for another year of successfully assisting nonprofit organizations across the state

“Nonprofit organizations – including hospitals, senior care providers, colleges and universities, K-12 schools, and other community-based organizations – play a critical role in delivering essential services, improving health and well-being, and strengthening Wisconsin’s economy,” said Gov. Evers. “Tax-exempt bonds are a key resource that enable these organizations to grow and fulfill their missions. For more than four decades, WHEFA has ensured nonprofit organizations throughout Wisconsin have access to affordable, tax-exempt financing so they can expand services while remaining cost-effective and focused on their communities.”

In Fiscal Year 2025, WHEFA facilitated tax-exempt financings for 11 nonprofit organizations operating in over 36 cities throughout 20 counties in Wisconsin, issuing bonds exceeding $1.2 billion. These projects are expected to generate approximately 590 permanent jobs and 2,131 construction jobs, totaling over 2,700 jobs created. Beneficiaries of these financings included four acute-care hospitals, two educational organizations, three senior living facilities, and two community-based nonprofit organizations—collectively employing more than 11,600 people across eight counties.

“We appreciate the governor’s continued support as we work to provide nonprofit organizations throughout Wisconsin access to tax-exempt bonds,” said WHEFA Executive Director Larry Wiemer. “These bonds are an essential tool that help nonprofit organizations operate efficiently, reduce costs, and reinvest savings into their core missions—supporting health, education, and community services. We remain committed to acting as a resource, advocate, and educator for nonprofit organizations in pursuit of low-cost capital funding.”

Established by the Wisconsin State Legislature in 1973, WHEFA has been actively assisting nonprofit organizations with capital financing since 1979. Bonds issued by WHEFA do not utilize any state funds or constitute an indebtedness of the state. The state has no liability to repay any obligation issued by WHEFA under any circumstances.
