MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers announced today his appointment of Peggy Miller to the Marinette County Circuit Court – Branch 1. The appointment will fill the vacancy being created by Judge Jane M. Sequin’s resignation, effective July 31, 2024. Miller will complete a term ending July 31, 2025.

“Peggy Miller is a respected lawyer who is passionate about the law and whose experience will help her seamlessly transition to this new role,” said Gov. Evers. “She will serve the people of Marinette County well as their next circuit court judge.”

Since 2019, Miller has been the family court commissioner, court commissioner, and register in probate for Oconto County. In this role, she manages a full calendar of hearings, predominantly covering family law matters but also extending to small claims, restraining orders, traffic citations, and probate. Miller spent the previous two decades in private practice in Northeast Wisconsin, representing clients in all aspects of family law, small claims matters, and as a guardian ad litem. Miller also has extensive experience with mediation and arbitration, particularly in bankruptcy and foreclosure matters.

“Peggy Miller is an amazing choice for Marinette County Circuit Court Judge,” said Brown County Circuit Court Judge Thomas J. Walsh. “She is committed to the rule of law and has an even temperament that is well suited to the judiciary. Her commitment to community will ensure that the people of Marinette County will be heard and that justice will be fair for all.”

Miller is a lifelong resident of Northeast Wisconsin and will be relocating to Marinette County to serve in this position. She is a graduate of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Concordia University, and Marquette University Law School. She has served in numerous capacities for both professional and community organizations, including as secretary and treasurer of the Family Court Commissioner Association and as a board member of the YWCA of Greater Green Bay.

“It is an amazing opportunity, as well as a dream come true, to become a judge in Marinette County,” said Miller. “There can be no greater honor than to be able to serve the citizens of such a beautiful and historic county. I am excited to become an active member of the community and will work diligently to be fair, courteous, and respectful to all. A heartfelt thank you to all of the judges, lawyers, friends, and family that have mentored and supported me throughout my career.”
