Golf Defeats UConn, 5-2, to Win BIG EAST Match Play

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — The top-seeded Marquette University men’s golf team defeated UConn, 5-2, in the championship of in BIG EAST Match Play on Tuesday at Bear Lake Country Club.

The Golden Eagles defeated Villanova, 6-1, and Butler, 5-2, on Monday to advance to Tuesday’s final against the No. 3 seed and event-host UConn.

Marquette’s No. 7 golfer Will Hemauer began the day with a convincing 6&5 win over UConn’s Caden Blanchette and Patrick Adler closed out the title for the Golden Eagles with a 5&3 win over Ray Dennehy in the top spot.

MU golfers Johan Widal, Ryan Banas and Vincent Cervantes each won all of their respective matchups against VU, BU and UConn.

MU was back in the event for the first time since it won the inaugural competition in 2021 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
