Give Our Public School Workers Their COLA Raise on July 1st
Statement from Alderman Alex Brower March 17, 2026
As Alderman of Milwaukee’s 3rd District, I stand with the workers of our public schools in their demand for a living wage. This call is being uplifted by the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association, the union representing over 5,700 frontline public education workers at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS).
Every year, inflation continues to reduce the buying power of all workers’ wages by increasing their cost of living. Failing to give the workers at MPS a cost-of-living pay increase effectively amounts to a pay cut.Even in times of financial hardship for MPS, workers deserve raises. Not giving them one is simply pushing the brunt of that hardship onto the workers themselves. If we want the students of our City to receive the best education possible, we need to ensure that our public school workers have dignified jobs that pay them a living wage.
I encourage MPS administration and the School Board to heed the demands of their workers and give them the full cost-of-living adjustment of 2.63% on July 1st. If you agree, I encourage you to sign the petition linked below.
