Get Inky with Anchor Press, Paper and Print!
Milwaukee’s robust print community gets another addition: Anchor Press, Paper & Print lands in Riverwest.
Milwaukee is proving to be an ever-growing hub for printmakers with dozens of professional studios that have public access and educational programming. Just to name a few: Team Nerd Letterpress, Cream City Print Lounge, BearBear Studios, The Bindery, Voces de la Frontera, Milwaukee Makerspace, Bayview Printing Company, Studio Arts and Craft Centre, and now Anchor Press, Paper and Print (AP3). There is no shortage of spaces where you can dive in and get inky, but AP3 is unique in that it offers facilities to support traditional and contemporary applications of stone and plate lithography, intaglio, relief, screenprinting, and monotype.
AP3 has just opened within the House of RAD artist complex in the Riverwest neighborhood. Located at 900 E Keefe Ave, the building was originally the Union Battery factory and houses over 30 artists and makers working in various mediums. AP3, run by co-founders David Jones and Marilyn Propp, has over 3 decades of professional printmaking experience. Jones, artist and master printer, has published works for blue chip artists including Ed Paschke, Kay Rosen, and Kerry James Marshall amongst many others.
In addition to the impressive publishing resume, “AP3 is very much a community space”, says Jones, “our goal is to support the next generation of young printmakers: and to offer internships, mentoring, and partnerships with local universities and organizations.” Anchor Press, Paper and Print has affordable monthly studio access as well as workshops for printmaking enthusiasts of all ages. If you are an experienced printmaker; sign up for our studio access. If you are curious, attend the closing reception of our Inaugural Show during Gallery Night Milwaukee on Friday, October 21st from 5:00PM – 9:00PM. We will be giving tours of the shop and celebrating Milwaukee print!
