By - Apr 29th, 2020 10:32 am

Gathering Place Brewing is releasing new batches of their wheat wine beer, The Wordsmith, along with three other variations. The four beers will be available in 500 ml bottles, on Saturday, May 9 from 2-6 p.m. exclusively via the taproom.

Wheat wine beers have become increasingly popular in recent years among craft breweries and the same can be said for Gathering Place.

“The Wordsmith is a strong beer with bold flavors and it’s one of our most unique beers made each year,” said Joe Yeado, founder of Gathering Place Brewing. “We made these variants last year, but just one keg of each. The response was overwhelming and we’re excited to now offer them in bottles for people to enjoy now and to age for years to come.”

Given the tremendous response to the brewery’s April 18 can release, Joe expects that this year’s Wordsmith release will be received just as well as it was in 2019, despite the COVID-19 situation.

Each variation is a special treat for beer drinkers:

  • The Wordsmith (2020)(9% ABV/ 60 IBU), a Wheat Wine with hints of pineapple, orange peel, pear, and peach. It has a balanced bready sweetness and cleansing bitterness followed by soft, fruity hop flavors.

  • The Coffee Wordsmith (2020)(9% ABV/ 60 IBU), a Wheat Wine made with a special blend of Kickapoo Coffee has a fruity, syrupy sweetness rounded out with a pleasing bitterness.

  • The High West Bourbon Barrel-Aged Wordsmith (2019)(10.5% ABV/ 40 IBU), a Wheat Wine aged for over a year resulting in a mix of vanilla and oak flavors from the bourbon and fruity, syrupy sweetness from The Wordsmith.

  • The Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned Wordsmith (2019)(10.5% ABV/ 40 IBU), is a made from the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Wordsmith and blended with bitter and sweet orange peel as well as dark cherries to create a taste perfect for any classic Supper Club.

The Wordsmith bottles are available in limited quantities from the brewery only. Customers can purchase these beers online starting Friday, May 8 at 9 a.m. with pick up starting Saturday, May 9 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visit Gathering Place Brewing’s online shop to order for pickup or visit the taproom to order beer-to-go.

About Gathering Place Brewing Company

Founded by Joe Yeado in 2017, Gathering Place Brewing Company is an independent brewery in the Riverwest neighborhood dedicated to crafting vibrant and unique beers that reflect the vibrant and unique community it calls home. We distinguish ourselves from other craft breweries in three main ways: our products, our commitment to the community, and our status as a local place for people to gather. The brewery’s name derives from the native Potawatomi word minwaking, meaning “gathering place by the waters.” At GPBC we are committed to community engagement and donate 1% of sales each quarter to a local charity while also hosting $1 for Milwaukee events in which GPBC contributes a portion of sales to non-profit groups making a difference in the community.
