MILWAUKEE (August 14, 2019) – Milwaukee-based communications firm, Creative Marketing Resources (CMR), has been named to the prestigious 2019 Inc. 5000 list, marking the second consecutive year the firm has been named to the list. CMR is the only Milwaukee-area company in the Advertising and Marketing industry to make the list.

Started in 1982 by Inc. Media, the Inc 5000 is a prominent annual award that honors the fastest-growing, privately-owned companies in the nation. Companies such as Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees of the Inc. 5000.

CMR was founded in 1995 as a multicultural marketing agency that primarily worked with local companies to better reach African American, Latino and Asian American audiences. In 2013, CMR transitioned to become a “total market” or cross-cultural marketing agency.

The total market model is rooted in the simple business principle that the most effective marketing is that which reaches the greatest share of consumers. Unlike the general market/multicultural binary that most agencies adopt, the total market model combines the general market and multicultural insights and perspectives, so marketing is developed with the entire market in mind.

Since adopting the total market model, CMR has grown nearly 400% and conducts business with notable national clients, such as GE Healthcare, UW-Madison and the Air National Guard. Despite global corporations, such as Coca-Cola, Walmart and McDonald’s, who have transitioned to the total market model, CMR remains Wisconsin’s only marketing communications firm that specializes in total marketing. The firm’s leadership believes that this distinction is one reason that the company has achieved back-to-back placement on the Inc 5000 list.

“Our transition to this model was purely out of business-focused logic. What was unexpected was how well this would be received,” said David Bowles, CMR’s Chief Strategy Officer. “Our clients understand that marketing that only reaches 70-80% of consumers doesn’t make dollars or sense. They’ve concluded that the total market model is the best way to expand their market share and increase their ROI. We look forward to continuing to grow with them.”
