Food available for those hit by power outages

Statement of Alderwoman Chantia Lewis

By - Aug 18th, 2021 01:21 pm

Last week’s power outages caused by the powerful storm on August 10 have really hit affected families hard, as valuable food spoiled in refrigerators and freezers had to be thrown away. For those who don’t receive support it can be a major challenge to replenish those food items while maintaining a household.

Great news: For those affected, the Social Development Commission in the New9th will be open this afternoon for anyone — free of charge — to stop by and get the food items they need.

The SDC location is at 9155 N. 76th St. and will be open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today for those in need.

I want to say THANK YOU to SDC and to the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee for offering this wonderful and valuable assistance to those who are hurting right now because of the power outages.

SDC and the Hunger Task Force set a great example of paying it forward and helping Milwaukee families!
