Fitzgerald Statement on Voting to Impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement after voting to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The final roll call on the measure was 214 yeas and 216 nays.

“Secretary Mayorkas has completely breached public trust. You need not look any further than his flip-flopping under oath at Congressional hearings about the operational control of the border. While he insisted that he did have operational control over the border, he quickly changed tune and admitted to me under oath that the opposite was true,” said Rep. Fitzgerald. “His failure to act lead to today’s vote. This vote was not taken hastily but follows a nearly year-long investigation by the House Homeland Security Committee into the causes, costs, and consequences of the unprecedented border crisis. Secretary Mayorkas refuses to comply with numerous detention requirements and misused parole authority as spelled out by the Immigration and Nationality Act. This has led to the release of more than 3.3 million illegal immigrants into the United States, and although CBP has disclosed that 172 individuals whose names appear on the terrorist watchlist were apprehended at the border in FY23, Secretary Mayorkas has failed to do anything meaningful to further secure the country. For these reasons, I voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas.”

How many times has 45 lied under oath but that was never enough cause for you to vote for impeachment. This is a prime example of RRRs(radical reactionary republicans) like Fitzgerald double standard. They accuse their opposition of weaponizing justice department while they try to weaponize the impeachment process.

Lets not forget the numerous times House RRRs have refused to fund Biden administration’s efforts to deal with the problems at our southern border. The fact is, House RRRs are more interested in acerbating our border issues then they are about solving them. A solution would be a win for Biden. What a disaster that would be for RRRs.

Fitzgerald has no interest in governing. His only interests are power (the absolute) and the donations from the uber wealthy. His vote for this bogus impeachment is proof of Fitzgerald’s and his RRR colleagues have no integrity.
