Federal Hemp Ban Threatens Wisconsin’s Farmers, Small Businesses, and Consumer Freedom
Washington, D.C. – Late last night, President Trump signed the continuing resolution which could outlaw much of Wisconsin’s hemp-based economy. Buried in the continuing resolution Republicans rushed through Congress is a provision which bans the “sale of intoxicating hemp-based or hemp-derived products” that have more than .4 milligrams of total THC per container. This would effectively prohibit 95% of hemp and CBD products currently sustaining hundreds of Wisconsin farms and small businesses.
“This provision proves once again that Republicans are the party of prohibition and big government who want to strip away personal freedom and critical medicine from the American people,” said Rep. Miresse. “They have pulled the rug out from under hundreds of Wisconsin farms and other small businesses that participate in the hemp economy and stepped between Wisconsinites and the products they enjoy.”
“I’m surprised and disappointed that the federal hemp ban was signed into law last evening. It will decimate the hemp industry in Wisconsin, hurting farmers and small businesses,” said Rep. Hysell. “Trump’s hemp ban only further compounds the failure of state Republicans to listen to their constituents and legalize cannabis here in Wisconsin.”
