Dr. Dawg has slated Tuesday, January 12 of 2021 for its grand opening celebration in Wauwatosa.

Grand Opening Celebration

The celebration at Dr. Dawg will look a little bit different than a traditional grand opening, and the team is taking a creative, fun and safe approach to welcoming new customers.

Giveaways include:

  • The first 100 guests on that day will get a chance at Dr. Dawg’s Golden Ticket. Each ticket is a winner and a surprise
  • Free Chicago Dogs for a year for one lucky dawg
  • 5 Dr. Dawg Swag Bags will be given away, one each week day the week of January 11

About Dr. Dawg

The Wauwatosa location is at 853 N. Mayfair Road in the Promenade, just north of Bluemound Road. This is Dr. Dawg’s second restaurant in the greater Milwaukee area. The first Dr. Dawg opened in Glendale in 2010 on Port Washington Road, just south of Good Hope Road.

Comfort Food with a Natural Twist

Customers will see traditional favorites like Italian Beef, Chicago Dogs and Char-Grilled Burgers on the menu, but Dr. Dawg isn’t just another hot dog joint. The restaurant carefully selects ingredients and suppliers that support its mantra “comfort food with a natural twist.”

“It’s important to us to give customers the foods that they crave and love with the highest quality ingredients. It’s good for the farmers, the livestock and our guests,” said managing partner Brooke Thomson. Here’s a look at what this means for guests:

  • Prime Angus burgers that are sustainable and certified humane from Niman Ranch
  • Cage free Chickens raised without growth hormones
  • Hot Dogs that are 100% beef
  • Vegetarian and vegan entrees
  • Fresh produce that is locally sourced when possible
  • Choosing local producers like Cedar Crest Ice Cream, Sprecher and Usinger’s
  • Dr. Dawg also caters customers who prefer gluten free and vegetarian options

Authentic Chicago Style Food

Thomson has southside Chicago roots – and the menu at Dr. Dawg is inspired by favorite hot dog joints, grills and street food vendors. Milwaukeeans, Chicago transplants and visitors can count on authenticity from Dr. Dawg.

“Our menu is like a Chicago food tour. When I came to Milwaukee and joined Dr. Dawg in 2014 I was drawn because of the authenticity and it reminded me of my favorites when I was growing up on the south side of Chicago, places like Uncle Sam’s, Junior’s, Pop’s and Super Dog.”

Dr. Dawg’s signature menu item is unique. The Dr. Dawg Dog is a jumbo 1/4 lb. char-grilled Angus sirloin beef hot dog served with mustard, green relish, onions, and topped with their famous hand-cut fries.

Operating in Unprecedented Times

It’s always a challenge to open a restaurant. Let alone open one while operating an existing location and amid an unprecedented time like 2020. Thomson and her team had originally hoped for an opening in September. They’ve met the challenge head on and with the support of loyal customers across the greater Milwaukee area. “We’ve had customers tell us how excited they are for the location in Wauwatosa, they’re asking us weekly when the doors will open. We even had one tell us that they’re going to camp out. We’re so grateful and moved by the kindness and encouragement,” said Thomson.

Fun for Work

Dr. Dawg is a fun meal for companies, offices and shops that want to treat their employees for their hard work around the holidays and getting through these unprecedented times. Dr. Dawg will deliver fresh and made to order foods or provide a catered meal.

“We know how hard people are working to keep their businesses moving forward. It’s fun to help employers say ‘thank you’ to their teams with great tasting food,” said Thomson.

Safe Dining at Dr. Dawg

Guests can enjoy meals from Dr. Dawg via carryout, curbside pickup, contactless delivery and socially distant dining. Employees wear masks and frequently sanitize guest contact areas including tables, chairs, counters and door handles.

Customers entering the restaurant will be required to wear a mask and respect the social space of employees and other patrons. “We are very cognizant of food safety and sanitation for our team and our guests. We’ll gladly provide curbside pickup to those who would prefer not to come in.”
