MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced the launch of a merchandise line commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Wisconsin State Park System.
The merchandise line will include the following items:
- 125th-anniversary waterproof sticker
- Reusable tote bag
- Bandanas in four color combinations
- Camp mug
- 12×18-inch posters of Interstate, Peninsula, Devil’s Lake and Wyalusing state parks
- Set of four Coasters – one of each for Interstate, Peninsula, Devil’s Lake and Wyalusing state parks
- Button magnets of Interstate, Peninsula, Devil’s Lake and Wyalusing state parks
- Adventure Journal (coming soon)
Items can be purchased from state parks, forests, recreation areas and some trails throughout the state. Many properties will offer sales from the park office, but this will vary by property. Both cash and credit sales are accepted.
Additionally, the DNR will host pop-ups to provide Wisconsinites with the opportunity to shop 125th-anniversary merchandise at selected properties or special events across the state. Updates on pop-up shop locations and dates will be made available through the DNR’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
The apparel, mug, bandana, waterproof sticker and tote bag feature a design inspired by the current 12-month Wisconsin state park and forest vehicle admission pass design.
The four properties highlighted on the coaster set, magnets and posters are Interstate, Peninsula, Devil’s Lake and Wyalusing (originally called Nelson Dewey) state parks. These properties are featured because they were the first parks established within the system.
Established in 1900, Interstate Park is the oldest park in the Wisconsin State Park System. Peninsula State Park was established in 1910, and Devil’s Lake State Park followed just one year later in 1911. Wyalusing State Park was established in 1917; the park was originally named Nelson Dewey State Park, but the name was changed in 1937.
The purchase of 125th anniversary merchandise directly supports the Wisconsin State Park System. In addition to state park and forest vehicle admission passes, trail passes and camping fees, merchandise sales fund operations at more than 120 properties across Wisconsin.
The DNR offers thousands of programs and events each year. This year, some of these events will highlight the anniversary and Wisconsin State Park System history. Special 125th-anniversary outreach items will be available at select events throughout the year. These events can range from guided hikes to interactive history presentations and trivia. Find events and programs on the DNR’s Events calendar.
Contributions by Friends Groups, volunteers and community partners are vital to the success of event offerings. Learn more about the different ways to get involved on the DNR’s Volunteer Opportunities webpage.
