Democrat Missy Hughes Launches Candidacy for Governor
Longtime Dairy Industry Leader is a Proven Job Creator – Not a Politician
Running to Build a Main Street Economy that Thrives for Every Wisconsin Worker, Family and Business
Viroqua, Wis — Missy Hughes, former Organic Valley executive and previous Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation head, today announced her campaign for Wisconsin Governor to build a Main Street Economy that thrives for every worker, family, and business.
“I’m not a politician, and that’s the point,” Missy said. “To create a prosperous economy for the future in all 72 counties, we need a leader who knows what it takes to create jobs, support workers, and attract businesses – and who rejects divisive politics that leaves so many behind. As your Governor, I’ll build a Main Street Economy where every Wisconsinite can get ahead with higher wages, affordable and accessible childcare and healthcare, housing that families can afford and count on, and strong public schools that prepare every child for the future.”
For 17 years Missy led Organic Valley, helping the farmer-owned dairy cooperative grow to $1 billion in sales while keeping 1,600 family farmers on their land. She was then appointed by Governor Tony Evers to lead Wisconsin’s Economic Development Corporation. Under Missy’s leadership, major companies like Milwaukee Tool, Microsoft, Eli Lilly, Kikkoman and more committed to invest over $10 billion and create 45,000 good-paying jobs across Wisconsin. She helped more than 9,500 Wisconsinites start small businesses on Main Streets by launching the Main Street Bounceback Program. Missy also led the push for Wisconsin to win U.S. Regional Technology Hub status, unlocking generational investment in biohealth and medicine expected to create 30,000 jobs. And she created the $100 million Wisconsin Investment Fund to ensure businesses born here can stay and grow here.

I’m Missy Hughes. There are a few things you need to know about me.
Missy’s a Democrat who understands the economy.
She spent years growing Wisconsin businesses.
And worked to strengthen Main Streets across Wisconsin.
The biggest thing, I’m running for Governor. Let me tell you why.
I spent 17 years as a dairy industry executive – growing Organic Valley to $1 billion in sales and keeping Wisconsin family farmers on their land.
Then Governor Evers appointed me to lead our state’s economic development agency, where I worked with major companies to create thousands of jobs here, and helped over 9,500 Wisconsinites start small businesses on Main Streets in every single county.
As Governor, I’ll create a Main Street Economy that includes you, and works for you. Where we strengthen our Main Streets, make sure Wisconsinites have higher wages and housing they can afford, our families have childcare and healthcare that doesn’t break the bank, and our public schools prepare our kids for the future.
I’m not going to go looking for a fight, but I’ll stand up to anyone, from the
White House to Wall Street, who comes after your rights or tries to make your life harder.
Listen, I’m not a politician. I’m different than other folks you’ve seen run for Governor. That’s the point.
Missy!
