“Democracy has prevailed” – Congratulations and Godspeed Mr. President and Madame Vice President
Statement of Common Council President Cavalier Johnson January 20, 2021
I want to personally congratulate President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on their inauguration today – standing to take their oaths on a space that was defiled by insurrectionist terrorists on January 6th.
It is truly a new day in America, and as President Biden so powerfully said, ‘Democracy has prevailed.’
Climate must be addressed. Racial justice must be addressed. The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic must be addressed. Economic devastation must be addressed. Threats to democracy must be addressed. Commitment to truth must be addressed.
Today President Biden said: ‘Politics doesn’t have to be a raging fire destroying everything in its path. Every disagreement doesn’t have to be a cause for total war. And we must reject the culture in which facts themselves are manipulated and even manufactured.’
Amen, Mr. President.
America is indispensable and we must work collectively in a sense of togetherness to move it forward.
