Déjà Vu All Over Again: Gov. Tommy Thompson Condemns Out-of-State Special Interests In U.S. Senate Race
Gov. Tommy Thompson overcame millions of dollars of spending from the Club for Growth in 2012 on his way to winning the Republican nomination.
Brookfield, Wis. – Gov. Tommy Thompson, the Republican nominee in the 2012 U.S. Senate race, condemned the re-entrance of the Club for Growth into the 2018 U.S. Senate race on Wednesday – calling it déjà vu.
“The national Club for Growth is at it again,” said Gov. Thompson. “I won the 2012 GOP primary for U.S. Senate despite Club for Growth’s attacks. Worse yet, the national Club for Growth never offered any help to my campaign in the general election which gave Tammy Baldwin a huge cash advantage. I condemned the Club’s attacks in the GOP primary in 2012 and now in the 2018 primary. They are wasting precious resources that would be better used in the general election to elect a conservative to the U.S. Senate from Wisconsin.”
Gov. Tommy Thompson overcame millions of dollars of spending from the Club for Growth in 2012 on his way to winning the Republican nomination.
Club for Growth — which also opposed both President Donald Trump and Gov. Scott Walker in their primaries — recently bought $2 million worth of negative ads with personal attacks against Leah Vukmir.
The Club has been heavily criticized for its role in helping elect Sen. Tammy Baldwin in 2012 and for inaccurately calling Leah Vukmir a RINO for standing with Walker to pass the conservative Act 10 budget.
Leah Vukmir is a nurse, military mom and conservative with a proven record who has stood with Gov. Walker in cutting taxes and implementing bold reforms. Endorsed by the Republican Party of Wisconsin, Leah is running for the U.S. Senate to bring the Wisconsin Way to Washington.
