County Executive Abele Disappointed in Marriage Decision, Vows to Keep Fighting for Equality
County Executive Chris Abele said he is disappointed in U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb’s ruling today that halts same sex marriages.
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said he is disappointed in U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb’s ruling today that halts same sex marriages. In the past week Milwaukee County has granted hundreds of marriage licenses to loving couples.
“One week ago we celebrated history at the Milwaukee County Courthouse as loving couples of all ages, races and religions said ‘I do.’ Today we take a step backwards from equal protection and equality. While I am extremely disappointed in the ruling it won’t slow me down from continuing to do what I’ve been doing for more than 15 years, fight for marriage equality and the fair treatment of all people.”
