Council action to help breathe life in to former Target building in the 9th District
"We are looking at 100 jobs and a community business providing family sustaining wages."
Alderwoman Chantia Lewis is excited to announce that the Common Council passed a substitute ordinance yesterday to allow Midwest Refrigerated Services to allocate operations to the former Target location that has been vacant for some time. The building is located at 8501 W. Brown Deer Rd. on the south side of W. Brown Deer Rd., west of N. 76th St., in the 9th Aldermanic District.
The substitute ordinance changes the zoning of this location to allow for light manufacturing, warehousing, fulfillment and packaging and office uses on the site. With the rezoning, Midwest Refrigerated Services will be able to bring new jobs and opportunities to the community through their expansion to the 9th District, the alderwoman said.
“I am very pleased that my colleagues supported this legislation that will bring new jobs to the 9th and bring valuable use to a long vacant property,” said Alderwoman Lewis. “We are looking at 100 jobs and a community business providing family sustaining wages. It is a true win-win-win for the New 9th!”
Midwest Refrigerated Services is a full service company that provides integrated frozen and refrigerated logistics services for the food industry. The company’s growth at its W. County Line Rd. location in Milwaukee necessitated the move to expand to the former Target location, according to Alderwoman Lewis.
