Congresswoman Gwen Moore Votes No on Musk-Trump Scheme

“Democratic and Republican House and Senate leadership negotiated a deal to keep the government open. After Elon Musk and Donald Trump blew up the deal, House Republicans cooked up a last-minute bill to appease Donald Trump’s demand to raise the debt ceiling. This provision will set the stage for Trump’s tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations.

I am old enough to remember that Republicans pushed our country to a default crisis and held our country hostage in order to raise the debt ceiling. Now it’s one of Republicans’ demands.

I supported a bipartisan deal that addresses critical needs such as disaster aid funding to areas and residents who need resources to rebuild their lives and their communities. That is far from what Republicans put on the Floor. Once again, House Republicans are using political brinkmanship to legislate.

I understand the gravity of a government shutdown, which is why we need a bipartisan deal.”
