Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Presidential Immunity Ruling

By - Jul 1st, 2024 12:53 pm

“The MAGA Supreme Court majority had no legal precedent or text to make the decision they did today, but they did it anyway. Throughout this session they have fundamentally shifted the bedrock of our democracy.

The self-proclaimed ‘constitutional textualists’ seem to have conveniently ignored the one place in the Constitution that does address, where a president may be subject to criminal prosecution from the same conduct that resulted or could have resulted in an impeachment:

Article I, Sec 3, Clause 7
Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

“This decision is an abdication of the responsibility given to a Supreme Court justice.

Americans went to sleep in the Republic our Founders gave us and woke up in a Kingdom imposed by the pen of six MAGA Supreme Court justices.”
