Congresswoman Gwen Moore Joins Democratic Colleagues at the Department of Education Demanding Answers for Efforts to Gut Public Education, Eliminate Department of Education
Amid President Trump’s promise to eliminate the Department of Education, Congresswoman Moore and her colleagues sent a letter requesting a meeting with Acting Secretary of Education, Denise Carter. The Members were denied entrance at doors that were labeled all-access and officials requested additional security while the doors remain locked. In response, she released the following statement:
“Since January 20th, we have watched Trump and his shadow President, Elon Musk, attempt to slash programs and services that millions of Americans need. Unfortunately, the Department of Education is not exempt from these efforts. As Trump and Musk work to gut public education and shutter an agency that serves millions of students in both red and blue communities, Elon Musk and his hackers have unfettered access to our federal agencies and our sensitive data. Musk and Trump think they don’t have to answer for their actions, even to Congress, and that is unacceptable. We will continue to push for oversight and demand answers for our constituents.”

Last month, she led 18 of her colleagues in a letter to the Acting Secretary emphasizing the importance of the Department of Education. In December 2024, Congresswoman Moore published an op-ed in The Nation highlighting the importance of federal support for public education.
