Congresswoman Gwen Moore Applauds Governor Evers for Expanding Postpartum Medicaid Coverage in Wisconsin
Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore released the following statement applauding Governor Evers for delivering on his commitment to extend postpartum Medicaid coverage for new mothers across Wisconsin.
“This is a life-saving step forward for mothers and babies across our state. I want to thank Governor Evers for being a true partner in this effort and for his continued commitment to maternal health equity.
For far too long, due to Republican obstruction, new moms in Wisconsin faced a dangerous gap in care, with coverage ending just 60 days after giving birth. Extending coverage to 12 months ensures that mothers can access critical care during the full postpartum period, including treatment for mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and other complications that too often go unaddressed.
Extending postpartum coverage to a full year is especially critical for Black mothers, who continue to face disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality and complications. Closing the coverage gap is a vital step toward addressing those disparities and ensuring that every mother has the care she needs.”
