Press Release

Congratulations Bucks!

Joint statement from members of the Milwaukee Common Council

Like the tens of thousands of people at the Deer District last night, and the many more watching at home, we were elated to watch the Bucks win their first NBA championship in 50 years right here in Milwaukee!

We want to congratulate the team on this outstanding accomplishment. Everyone from the players, to ownership, front office staff and all those who work at the Fiserv Forum deserve recognition for what was truly a team effort all season long.

The fans also deserve applause for showing the world how passionate and dedicated our city is. From game one of the season through yesterday, our diverse fan base never stopped supporting their team. The world saw our fans – of nearly every race and ethnicity – uniting in support of the team and filling the Deer District and the Fiserv Forum during the incredibly exciting playoff run.

In particular, we also want to give a special shout out to Senator Herb Kohl. When he sold the team years ago he made keeping the Bucks in Milwaukee a priority, and even contributed $100 million toward what is now the Fiserv Forum. We would not be celebrating today without his efforts.

What makes this championship so special is how the Bucks have embodied everything that we love about Milwaukee: passion, effort, grit, resiliency, diversity and perseverance. When a team and city connect in this way the victory feels even better.

As we celebrate this tremendous victory, and are inspired by the work the players did on the court, we stand ready to continue to collaboratively do the necessary work off the court to improve this city.

We look forward to the forthcoming parade and continuing the celebration in the days ahead. Congrats Bucks!
