Common Council approves additional funding for Zillman Park redesign
During today’s meeting of the Common Council (Tuesday, May 9), the Council adopted file #221926 – a resolution authorizing additional funding and expenditures for Tax Incremental District No. 100 (Zillman Park). The file authorizes $430,000 in additional project costs within Tax Incremental District No. 100 for the construction of public amenities within the redesigned park, bringing the total project budget to $930,000.
Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic, who sponsored today’s file, believes the new park will be a welcome addition for residents and visitors alike. “Zillman Park is the gateway to Bay View, and I’m delighted that this new space will provide a flexible environment for all types of programming and truly represents the desires of the neighborhood,” she said. “Vibrant, accessible green spaces really allow our community to thrive, and I want to thank all of the residents who provided their input, as well as the partners who helped us get to this point. I can’t wait for the new Zillman Park to open later this year.”
Construction of the park is tentatively slated to begin this summer with the park opening to the public in the fall. Quorum Architects led the community engagement and design, and partnered with City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Plays, and the Bay View Neighborhood Association to facilitate meetings and collect feedback.
