Coakley Brothers Awarded Green Luminary Award
Statement of Alderman José G. Pérez - December 4, 2018
I would like to congratulate Coakley Brothers for receiving the Green Luminary Award for their innovative storm water landscape courtyard (at 400 S. 5th St. in the 12th Aldermanic District). The Green Luminary award is presented by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) to “Luminaries” who use green technology to create innovative solutions that protect Lake Michigan and Milwaukee rivers from storm water runoff. Coakley Brothers has taken their over 100-year-old building and converted the concrete surroundings into a green infrastructure courtyard that is able to manage hundreds of thousands of gallons of rainwater every storm which greatly reduces local water pollution.
Coakley Brothers’ dedication to green infrastructure and a sustainable environment is a shining example of a business that truly cares about the future of its surrounding environment and local community.
I wish Coakley Brothers well in their future endeavors for a sustainable environment, and encourage all local companies to work toward cleaner waterways for Milwaukee.
