Clerk Christenson Informs Early Voters About the Option to Change Their Vote
MILWAUKEE – Today Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson held a press conference to inform the public on how to “spoil” their ballot in order to change their vote.
“This isn’t just about the Democratic Senate race, it’s also about the Governor’s race,” said Clerk Christenson. “If a voter has cast their ballot and changes their mind, and they voted early or absentee, they can spoil their ballot and make a different choice. The ability to do so is protected by state law to help ensure that everyone’s voice is heard, and that votes are cast for eligible candidates.”
If a voter wishes to spoil their initial ballot by mail, they must do so by no later than 5 p.m. on August 4. For indefinitely confined voters, the deadline is August 5.
To spoil a ballot in-person, voters must go to their polling place and request to re-vote.
Poll workers will then tear the original ballot and mark it as “spoiled”.
Voters can spoil their ballots and re-vote up to three times before their votes are officially counted.
