City of Milwaukee Announces 2015 Project Clean & Green Program Dates

Citywide clean-up effort runs April 13-June 1, 2015

By - Apr 10th, 2015 04:51 pm

The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works’ annual Project Clean & Green program will run from April 13 through June 1, 2015.

Project Clean & Green (PCG) is a citywide program designed to foster neighborhood pride through coordinated pick up of excess household debris, street and alley sweeping, nuisance inspections, graffiti removal, and other neighborhood beautification activities sponsored by community organizations.

How it works: The City of Milwaukee has been segmented into seven (7) PCG collection zones.  Residents within an assigned zone can place their unwanted furniture, mattresses, household items, up to two (2) cubic yards of tree trimmings, and up to five (5) tires at their regular garbage collection point – either the curb or alley line – on their regular garbage collection day during their designated Project Clean & Green week.   DPW crews will pick up excess, unwanted household items at no charge to the resident.  Normally, residents would be charged $50 to $150 for all bulky item pickup requests larger than one (1) cubic yard (about the size of an easy chair), and will be charged those amounts after their program week passes.

Residents can go to http://mpw.milwaukee.gov/services/garbage_day  to find out when PCG is scheduled for a specific block/street/neighborhood.

What DPW will not pick up during Project Clean & Green:

  • Appliances
  • TVs and other electronics, such as computers, printers, scanners, tablets, etc.
  • Construction debris
  • Paint and paint thinner, motor oil, and other hazardous waste
  • Grass, yard waste, and more than two (2) cubic yards of tree trimmings.

These items can be taken to either of two City Self-Help Center sites for proper disposal.  For a list of accepted items, go to www.city.milwaukee.gov/mpw/divisions/operations/environmental/sanitation/SelfHelpCenters.htm.  This site also includes Self Help Center location and hours of operation information,

If a neighborhood organization wants to schedule a group clean-up, please contact Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful at www.kgmb.org or 414.272.5462 for clean-up bags, gloves, or to borrow a limited number of clean-up tools, such as rakes, shovels, and brooms.
