MILWAUKEE – In a statement released Monday, County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson endorsed County Executive David Crowley’s vision for Milwaukee County and pledged to continue to work together towards common goals.
“I wholeheartedly endorse County Executive David Crowley’s vision for Milwaukee County as laid out in his public address delivered Monday, and look forward to working together to achieve our shared goals.
“I’m proud of the work we’ve done together over the past three months, and I agree with the County Executive that we must focus intentionally on “upstream” solutions to some of the challenges we face while continuing to more fully integrate our services.
“As the Chairwoman of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, I’m committed to using the oversight role of the Board to analyze county operations and identify new efficiencies, especially as they relate to dismantling institutional racism and working towards racial equity. As a body, the Board of Supervisors will continue to offer solutions by revising or crafting new county policies that will empower employees to provide the best possible services despite our shrinking revenue streams and growing state mandates.
“As Chairwoman of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, I am committed to engaging the community in our policy and budget process to ensure the diverse voices of our constituents remain at the center of our legislative work. The Board has a unique function in Milwaukee County that operates best when we have more voices at the table.
“Milwaukee County is more unified than ever before, and that unity will be critical in the months and years ahead. Estimated at $42-$60 million, we are facing the County’s largest budget deficit ever in 2021. Nevertheless, I’m optimistic that our intentionality and unity will help us successfully overcome these and other challenges because we are stronger together.”
