Special Community Appearances with Cast Members of the Color Purple

October 7, 2014 – [Milwaukee] – The Color Purple opened Friday, September 26. Critics have called the show, “A spectacular production . . . an evening of some of the best, warmest music you will see on stage all year,” OnMilwaukee.com. MilwaukeeMag.com called it “A superb production . . . impressive cast.” Chicago Theatre Review said, “The entire ensemble is first-rate.” [The Color Purple has an] “Electrifying cast . . . Soul-stirring, toe-tapping, musical score . . . superlative performances,” commented Showbiz Chicago. Around the Town Chicago called it, “One of the best productions of this amazing love story,” and Broadway World described it as . . . Beautiful, Bold and Brilliant.” The Color Purple runs now through November 2 in The Rep’s Quadracci Powerhouse. Cast members from The Rep’s production of The Color Purple will be making two upcoming special community appearances.

Cast members include: Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Preacher/Guard/Buster) and Church Ladies Melody Betts (Darlene), Vanessa A. Jones-Dubose (Jarene), and Vallea E. Woodbury (Doris).

Milwaukee Repertory Theater is also holding special panel discussions in conjunction with their current production of The Color Purple running now – November 2, 2014 in the Quadracci Powerhouse theater. This special series of panel discussions features guest experts and explores many of the themes found in the play. They will be held immediately following the 2:00pm Sunday matinee performances in the Quadracci Powerhouse. All panel discussions are free and open to the general public as well as regular Rep theater patrons.
