Carvd N Stone Partners with Milwaukee Film for Free Screening and Talkback During Black History Month 2026
Milwaukee (December 29, 2025) – Carvd N Stone is partnering with Milwaukee Film to present Voices of the Black Press, a free screening of the documentary “The Black Press: Soldiers Without Swords”, followed by a live post-screening talkback with Black journalists and media from Milwaukee during Black History Month 2026.
The documentary highlights the critical role Black-owned newspapers and journalists have played in documenting history, advocating for justice, and amplifying voices often ignored by mainstream media. Following the screening, attendees will be invited into a moderated conversation connecting the film’s themes featuring local Black journalists and media. The post-screening talkback will be moderated by Nyesha Stone, Founder of Carvd N Stone and national journalist Dawn Montgomery, the Culture Critic of the Black Press USA, and will feature the following panelists:
● Shannon Sims, Former TMJ4 Anchor
● Tannette Elie, President, NABJ Milwaukee
● Earl Arms, Host of Black Nouveau on Milwaukee PBS and Media & PR Strategist at Northwestern Mutual
● Kim Shine, Senior Digital Producer, Radio Milwaukee
● Kayla Lewis-Allen, Owner, Full Circle Enterprises
● Carrie Mahone, Co-host of Jammin with Juice
“At a time when journalism is evolving, and local newsrooms are shrinking, we must acknowledge the foundation Black press has laid and continue to support the voices carrying that work forward,” said Nyesha Stone, Founder of Carvd N Stone. “And we couldn’t be happier to be partnering with Milwaukee Film, who consistently supports local talent and pushes for a more creative and inclusive Milwaukee.”
“Milwaukee Film is thrilled to partner with Carvd N Stone on this powerful screening, which emphasizes and explores the importance of Black voices in journalism,” expressed Milwaukee Film’s Black Lens Programmer Ty Williams. “Working with Nyesha to bring this screening to the historic Oriental Theatre has been extremely rewarding, and we can’t wait for Milwaukee audiences to experience this engaging documentary in honor of Black History Month,” he concluded.
The event is FREE and open to the public, but tickets are required for entry and must be reserved in advance. Attendees can also expect giveaways throughout the evening.
