Budget amendment bolstering Office of Equity and Inclusion adopted by Council
During today’s meeting of the Common Council (Friday, November 3), the Council adopted budget amendment 28C sponsored by Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr. The amendment adds $500,000 to the Equity and Inclusion Special Fund in the Office of the Director in the Department of Administration. The amendment is tax levy neutral, and is offset by reducing the cash levy for the Joint Public Safety Radio upgrade project. The amendment is one of many adopted by the Common Council during today’s meeting as part of the city’s approximately $1.9 billion budget for 2024. The amendment was co-sponsored by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, Alderwoman Andrea M. Pratt, and Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II.
“The Office of Equity and Inclusion has played an increasingly vital role in local government, and providing additional funding will go a long way toward supporting their mission of achieving racial equity and creating opportunities for all residents,” said Alderman Chambers. “It is important that we continue to work to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in all of our systems, and I look forward to seeing the impact this additional funding will have in the community.”All amendments to the 2024 City budget can be viewed here along with previous department presentations and other budget related information.
