MILWAUKEE, Wis. – (September 23, 2020) – Following a successful in-person summer program that operated at reduced capacity, this fall Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (BGCGM) is providing in-person academic support to Milwaukee students learning remotely. Virtual learning support is available at more than 30 sites across Milwaukee. This is part of BGCGM’s commitment to do whatever it takes to give every child in Milwaukee access to a great future, especially those who need us most.

“We know families are under a tremendous amount of stress, and we want to alleviate some of that stress by giving parents and guardians an alternative to virtual schooling at home,” said BGCGM President and CEO Kathy Thornton-Bias. “Whether it’s that they work outside the home, they’re unfamiliar with virtual learning or technology, or they simply can’t balance their job and their kids’ schooling, online learning at home simply isn’t a viable option for some families. Boys & Girls Clubs offers peace of mind by providing families with an alternative environment for learning at a time when it is needed most.”

BGCGM’s Youth Development Professionals support students as they study independently and while participating in their school’s synchronous learning schedule. Students wear masks and maintain CDC-recommended social distancing while working in small groups with access to reliable WiFi. BGCGM also provides students with nutritious meals and snacks, social-emotional care, recreation, and other enriching non-screen time activities.

Programming is available Monday-Friday for students aged 4-15. Select locations are open from 7am – 6pm while others are open for after school hours. Hours and ages served vary by site. Extensive health and safety protocols are in place and all students and staff are required to wear masks while inside Boys & Girls Club facilities. Families can learn more and register online at bgcmilwaukee.org/fall-registration.
