Board of Supervisors Invest Nearly $1 Million to Reimagine Sherman Park
MILWAUKEE – Today the County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a proposal to invest $962,303 in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to improve the safety, vibrancy, and vitality of Sherman Park.
“Sherman Park is near and dear to my heart,” said Chairwoman Nicholson, whose district includes the park. “My parents live in the neighborhood. My grandparents owned a home in the area. It is more than just a neighborhood park. It is a beloved gathering place for a diverse range of Milwaukeeans and deserves this transformational investment. Last year I brought hundreds of residents together for a fun-filled, family-friendly afternoon at the first Sherman Park Harvest Fest. This showed the power of how an activated park can benefit a community. I look forward to the newly reimagined Sherman Park being a positive force in our county for years to come!”
The Reimagine Sherman Park project is a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee—which operates its Mary Ryan Center out of the park—and includes 15 total park improvements. The project seeks to improve the park environment, reduce community violence, reduce stormwater runoff, and improve clean water conditions.
County funding will specifically be used to convert a wading pool to a splash pad, upgrade lighting and park pathways, and improve a waste management area. Additional funding will be provided by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee.
