Board of Supervisors Approves First Set of Intergovernmental Relations Resolutions Under New Committee Leadership
MILWAUKEE – During today’s monthly Board of Supervisors meeting, three resolutions referred by the Intergovernmental Relations Committee were adopted. This marks the first cycle of leadership under the committee’s new chair, Supervisor Caroline Gómez-Tom.
Supervisor Gómez-Tom issued the following statement:
“I want to express my gratitude to all my colleagues for the warm welcome as the new Chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee. I am eager to advance the crucial work of this committee by fostering a spirit of collaboration across all levels of government. Our mission is to serve our communities and constituents effectively. It is essential that we work together, combine our resources and expertise, and create solutions that benefit everyone. Our success depends on our ability to unite and address the challenges in open communication to meet the needs of our shared communities.”
Among the resolutions adopted, one includes a measure to enhance the Youth Commission by amending the Milwaukee County Code of General Ordinances. This amendment streamlines the onboarding process for appointees, aiming to improve the commission’s efficiency and representativeness.
Another resolution supports Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) in their efforts to enhance financial reporting and accounting practices. This resolution advocates for sufficient state funding for MPS and other public schools while also supporting the continuation of a democratically elected local school board.
The final resolution requests the Department of Administrative Services to provide a comprehensive written response to the Wisconsin Policy Forum’s report, “Partnering Up.” This request seeks to evaluate the potential for increased shared services between Milwaukee County and the City of Milwaukee and outlines a timeline for implementing the proposed actions.
