BLOC Statement on Oct 24th Hit & Run

Reflecting our community, members of BLOC include the family of both the victims and the accused.

By - Nov 8th, 2019 04:08 pm

The BLOC family is heartbroken by the tragic event in a neighborhood we call home; we grieve for the loss of life and offer our sincere condolences to the family of the children who lost their lives. BLOC is made of people working towards the common goal of improving the quality of life in the Black community. As a part of this work, we pride ourselves on hiring and training from the community. Reflecting our community, members of BLOC include the family of both the victims and the accused. Being from oppressed communities, all of us carry and are impacted by collective trauma. Our focus right now is on healing as a team and with the rest of the Milwaukee community.

We will not waver in our mission to build power at the neighborhood level for disenfranchised communities, one person at a time, one block at a time. Moving forward, BLOC will continue to address the issues that are most impacting our communities, centering Black voices so that all our children and families have the Freedom to Thrive.

I applaud the leaders of BLOC for reminding the public at large of the positive impact of this organization and our shared commitment to improving the quality of life in the Black community. Some may want to use the tragic circumstances of the loss of life of our children by someone associated with BLOC as a reason to disparage shared goals of empowering disenfranchised communities and the positive impact BLOC has and will continue to have within our community. Thank you for your message. We grieve with the family and support you in your mission.
