Assembly Passes Bill Regulating Use of Artificial Intelligence in Campaign Advertisements
Madison, WI – Today the Wisconsin State Assembly passed AB-664, which requires disclosures on political advertisements using content generated by artificial intelligence. It is the first piece of legislation in the United States to regulate synthetic media in political advertisements in a content-neutral manner. This bill will help Wisconsinites make informed decisions at the polls and know if political communications are artificially generated. It builds on the existing campaign disclosure enforcement process through the Wisconsin Ethics Commission and combines existing policies from various other states. The bill is now awaiting passage in the Wisconsin State Senate.
“I am pleased to see AB-664 pass the Assembly. This bipartisan bill will become model legislation for State Legislatures across the nation. Requiring a disclaimer when using audio and video content substantially generated by AI will protect democracy and provide much needed transparency in our political advertisements,” said Rep. Anderson.NOTE: This press release was submitted to Urban Milwaukee and was not written by an Urban Milwaukee writer.
