Assembly GOP Commits to Protecting Those with Pre-Existing Conditions

"This important piece of legislation will provide protection and stability to those with a pre-existing medical condition."

Madison— Today State Representative Adam Neylon (R-Pewaukee) issued the following statement after Assembly Republicans passed legislation protecting those with pre-existing conditions:

“Today the Wisconsin State Assembly made a commitment to protect every single person in Wisconsin with a pre-existing condition. By passing Assembly Bill 1 (AB1), also known as the Pre-Existing Guaranteed Coverage Act, no one in Wisconsin can be denied medical coverage or be forced to pay higher premiums because of their pre-existing medical condition.

“This important piece of legislation will provide protection and stability to those with a pre-existing medical condition. It ensures coverage for every person in Wisconsin regardless of any changes at the federal level.

“This bill also makes important changes to the Annual and Lifetime Caps paid by the people of Wisconsin. Without a lifetime or annual cap, a single diagnosis or sudden life changing event can leave you paying substantial- even life changing- costs because insurance providers may no longer cover it.

“This bill ensures that no matter what happens in Washington, consumers in Wisconsin will have access to coverage. That is our promise to the people of Wisconsin. It is my hope that the Senate will confirm this important commitment to the people of Wisconsin.”
