As Temperatures Drop, the Milwaukee Continuum of Care Will Provide Shelter for Milwaukee’s Homeless

MILWAUKEE— During Milwaukee’s winter months, the Milwaukee Continuum of Care will provide shelter for individuals in need. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, warming rooms will operate differently this year than they have in the past.

In accordance with local ordinances and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, the Milwaukee Continuum of Care will make its best effort to shelter all individuals currently experiencing street homelessness or fleeing domestic violence in the community in its shelters and socially distanced non-congregate settings. Guests in these settings will be supported by community case managers in their plans to obtain housing.

The Milwaukee Continuum of Care also works closely with Milwaukee-area shelter partners to provide COVID-19 support and assistance through the Milwaukee Health Department. Most shelters have been operating at reduced capacity since the pandemic began in March.

Individuals in need of immediate housing services should contact Coordinated Entry by calling 2-1-1 to be assessed and prioritized for referrals for prevention, housing, shelter or non-congregate settings as appropriate.
