Madison, WI – Today, Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin (AFP-WI) announced its support for Wisconsin’s Red Tape Reset, a transformative legislative package introduced by Republican lawmakers from the State Assembly and Senate. This bold initiative aims to eliminate excessive regulations, enhance Wisconsin’s competitiveness, and unleash economic prosperity by removing barriers to innovation and growth.

Wisconsin currently ranks as the 13th most regulated state in the nation and the 2nd most regulated in the Midwest, with over 165,000 regulatory restrictions in its administrative code—double the restrictions of neighboring states like Michigan. A recent report by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) underscores the urgent need for regulatory reform to create a thriving economy, attract investment, and position Wisconsin as a leader in the Midwest and beyond.

By reducing the regulatory burden, the Red Tape Reset will make Wisconsin a magnet for businesses, entrepreneurs, and job creators. Streamlining outdated rules will not only foster innovation but also empower small businesses and startups to compete on a national stage, driving long-term economic growth and opportunity for all Wisconsinites.

AFP-WI State Director Megan Novak released the following statement:

“Wisconsin’s 165,000 regulatory restrictions suffocate opportunity, burdening businesses and stifling innovation at a time when we must compete with leaner, more agile states. The Red Tape Reset is a vital reform to restore our state’s economic edge and once again position Wisconsin as a leader in the Midwest.

“This package delivers smarter, more transparent governance, dismantling bureaucratic barriers that stifle entrepreneurship and deter investment, and builds on important regulatory reforms like the REINS Act. With double the regulations of states like Michigan, Wisconsin must act now to level the playing field and become the economic powerhouse of the Midwest. The Red Tape Reset will make our state a beacon for opportunity, attracting new businesses and empowering our workforce to thrive.

“AFP-WI is proud to support this effort and grateful to the principled leaders championing this legislation. We look forward to partnering with more elected officials and WILL to ensure Wisconsin’s economy becomes the strongest in the nation.”

Wisconsin’s Red Tape Reset legislative package includes the following legislation:

  • LRB-0565: Regulatory Sunsetting, introduced by Rep. Neylon & Sen. Nass
  • LRB-0566: Regulatory Budgeting, introduced by Rep. Gustafson & Sen. Bradley
  • LRB-0567: One Rule Per Scope Statement, introduced by Rep. Knodl and Sen. Hutton
  • LRB-0568: Challenging the Validity of Administrative Rules, introduced by Rep. Tusler and Sen. Wimberger
