Alderman Sean Lowe to Run Unopposed for District 6 in Wauwatosa
Historic Local Leader to Represent Newly Drawn District
WAUWATOSA, WI — Alderman Sean Lowe, who first made headlines in 2022 by winning his seat by a single vote, will now represent the newly configured District 6 on the Wauwatosa Common Council. Lowe’s 2022 race became one of the closest in city history: after the initial spring election, he and incumbent Rob Gustafson were tied at 702 votes each. On April 8, 2022, a single valid provisional ballot was opened and counted for Lowe, bringing his total to 703–702. A subsequent nerve-wracking recount that lasted many hours confirmed that result. With that victory, Lowe became the first African-American man ever elected to the Wauwatosa Common Council in its 125-year history. In April 2026, he is poised to make history again as the first African-American to be re-elected to the Council. Lowe was the first and only person to successfully file completed nomination papers for District 6 and will face no challengers in the April 2026 spring election.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to continue serving this community,” Lowe said. “Running unopposed is a responsibility, not a guarantee. My focus remains the same: being accessible, listening carefully, and working with neighbors, city staff, and community partners to address day-to-day concerns and long-term priorities while working every day to represent District 6 with integrity.”
Under the updated map, District 6 will encompass 73rd Street to Swan Boulevard (one block west of 91st Street), running east to west, and Center Street to North Avenue, going north to south. The City shared updated district information so residents can confirm which district they live in and how to contact their alderperson.
“Any time district lines change, people naturally have questions about who represents them and how to stay informed,” Lowe added. “I want District 6 residents to know that I’m here to help them navigate city services, raise issues, and stay engaged in local decisions.”
Residents can learn more about the new council structure and district boundaries by visiting the City of Wauwatosa’s website or contacting the City Clerk’s office.
Since his election in 2022, Lowe has championed the same priorities he pledged during his initial campaign:
- Growth and Opportunity: Attracting creative businesses and inspiring leaders to Wauwatosa.
- Public Safety: Working to build trust between law enforcement and community members.
- Greenspace and Parks: Maintaining walking paths, parks, and other outdoor spaces.
