Alderman Donovan to announce ‘full-court press’ on petition drive
Alderman will hold Thursday morning news conference at grocery store
Alderman Bob Donovan will hold a news conference at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, January 15, 2015) at the El Rey grocery store at 3524 W. Burnham St. to urge residents to sign and circulate the petition seeking a binding referendum on the downtown streetcar project.
The alderman will be joined by fellow members of UNITED for Milwaukee, a coalition of residents, business owners and other stakeholders who are working to collect signatures to pass direct legislation that would require the city to hold a binding referendum in order to construct any rail transit system exceeding $20 million.“The clock is ticking on our window to collect signatures, and I am urging everyone who thinks the mayor’s boondoggle streetcar project is a huge waste of time and money to get involved and join us in collecting signatures,” Alderman Donovan said. “The voice of the people must be heard, and it’s time for a full-court press for signatures.”
