Ald. Westmoreland establishes plan for food trucks on Capitol Drive
Alderman Lamont Westmoreland has laid out a plan to reestablish sales from parked vehicles operating on W. Capitol Dr. from 76th St. to the city limits. A ban on these sales was passed by the Common Council last month and went into effect on March 16th. The chief reasons for this ban were traffic safety and littering concerns.
Alderman Westmoreland says that, “After consultation with the City Engineer, Commissioner of the Department of Public Works, Health Department, Parking Enforcement Management and Licensing Division, I’m delighted to share that the ban on food trucks on this stretch of Capitol Dr. will be lifted this summer and in its place will be a designated food truck zone. From now until the lift of the ban, I am working to bring more organization and structure which will dramatically reduce litter concerns, negative impacts to brick and mortar food establishments in the area, and alleviate safety concerns for both patrons and operators.”
Further information on the timeline and rollout of the new food truck zone will be released at a later date as details are finalized.
