A Big Hit is Back at Acacia!
MILWAUKEE (September 23, 2025) – A decade after its “first-rate” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) and sold-out premiere, Acacia is set to revive Freud’s Last Session. What if C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud met? What would they talk about?
Mark St. Germain’s play—suggested by The Question of God by Dr. Armand M. Nicholi, Jr.—imagines a conversation between these titans of theology and psychology on the day England enters WWII. The debate is friendly but the stakes are high as Freud and Lewis assert their truths and attempt to understand the other, “with both humor and insight in abundance…the kind of nuance that breathes life into history.” (NY 1)
Freud’s original director Elaine Wyler returns to the helm, following her “well-focused direction” (Shepherd Express) of Acacia’s A Sleep of Prisoners. Also returning is David Sapiro, who was praised for “superbly transform[ing] himself” (Shepherd Express) into Freud for Acacia’s premiere. Completing the duo as C.S. Lewis is Jason Will, described as “a real find” (Shepherd Express) with “incredible skill and humor” (Wisconsin Theater Spotlight). Talent and experience have prepared both actors for this “wittily and compassionately dramatized clash of personalities and ideologies.” (CurtainUp)
