$300 to Change a Kid’s Life? It’s True!

City Champs prepares expansion of free martial arts training for youths to city’s northwest side

MILWAUKEE – What is the cost to take a kid off the streets, put him or her in an environment of discipline and self-respect, and encourage them to achieve their personal potential?

$300.

This is the per-student expense for a year of martial arts training and equipment with City Champs Foundation, a local organization dedicated to helping youths via the discipline of martial arts. The 4-year-old organization plans to expand its free training for youths in February by partnering with Combat Corner to open a new, 3,500-square-foot permanent home base on Milwaukee’s northwest side.

Hundreds of children, ages 6 to 18, have trained in City Champs programs at gyms and community centers. Ready to settle into a permanent space, organizers want potential supporters to know the relatively small amount – $300 – to offer this life-changing instruction.

“Boxing and martial arts training aren’t about teaching kids to fight,” said Jared Bell, founder of City Champs. “Rather, this training channels children’s natural energy and impulses in a constructive manner, teaching them confidence, self-control and leadership along the way.”

City Champs, a 501(c)3 organization, is seeking sponsors as it grows its presence in Milwaukee. Just $300 can put a child on a course of greater fitness and interpersonal skills. Contributions can be made at www.citychamps.org/support.

City Champs identifies potential participants through partnerships with fellow community organizations, educators and parents. Its program seeks to keep kids off the streets, and in gyms where they learn goal-setting and valuable life skills. The entire community benefits.

The free classes are open to boys and girls ages 6 to 18. Anyone interested in participating can learn more by visiting www.citychamps.org and filling out the contact form at the page bottom.

More information about City Champs is available at www.citychamps.org, or by following the organization on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram or YouTube.
