Milwaukee, WI – WPCA is proud to host the longest running celebration of Día de los Muertos in Milwaukee. It is a celebration of life, rich indigenous traditions, and of Mexican culture. Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration of life and death—a time where the memories of loved ones who have passed are honored and are kept alive in memory and spirit.

The celebration will include altares (altars/offerings) created by community groups and members in addition to sculpture and 2-D work. This exhibition celebrates life and death while exploring ancestral connections, living expressions of culture and traditions. The exhibition not only presents a cultural and art experience, but also offers stories of those who, even in their absence, prove to be impactful and continue to inspire people who carry their memories in life.

This year we are honored to have ofrendas created by Jeanette Arellano with Hayes Bilingual School, Dulce Rosas with Milwaukee School of Language; Panadería Flor De Trigo; Pete’s Fruit Market; Dominique; Familia Luévano; George Banda with the GI Forum & Esperanza Gutierrez; Soy Quien Soy Studio; WPCA’s Afterschool Art class Youth participants; and Diego Heredia with Día de los Muertos MKE. Visual Artist presenting sculpture and 2-D artwork include Conhg Lopez, Andrea Lira, Luis Rafael Galvez, Ceci Tejeda, H2 Collaborative, and Leann Wooten.
