MILWAUKEE (February 28, 2019) — Humboldt Park Friends (HPF) and the Milwaukee County Parks Department will host the 20th annual Easter Egg Hunt at Humboldt Park on Saturday, March 28. The egg hunt is free, but families are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Bay View Community Center’s food pantry.

The Bay View Lions Club will again host a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. inside the pavilion located at Park Road and E. Idaho St. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausages and beverages cost $7 per person (cash only). Cost for children age 4-11 is $5 with no charge for children 3 and under with a paying adult. Breakfast is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The free Egg Hunt begins exactly at 11 a.m., rain, snow or shine on the west side of the pavilion. It is open to children up to 12 years old. HPF will have 5,000 candy-filled eggs scattered among five designated age zones – one for 1- and 2-year-olds, a second for 3- and 4-year-olds, a third for 5- and 6-year-olds (1st graders), a fourth for 2nd and 3rd graders, and a fifth zone for 4th and 5th graders. Each zone will contain at least one golden egg with a special prize inside.

The Easter Bunny will be available for free photos with children and families from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and following the Egg Hunt. There will be a free stroller check-in at the pavilion and egg recycling bins to place plastic eggs in after the egg hunt. Families are reminded to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the food pantry at the Bay View Community Center.

Parking is free along Park Road and Idaho St. within the park and on city streets surrounding the park. HPF asks families to allow plenty of time to find a parking spot and be respectful of neighborhood residents.

HPF is grateful to Mercy Hill Church and The Family Mechanic for sponsoring the event; Karen Block of Keller William Realty for sponsoring the Easter Bunny photo event along with donations from Bounce, Catral Doyle Creative, First Federal Bank, Great Northern Corporation, McSweeney Public Relations, Walgreens on Howell Avenue, 360 Production, and other local businesses. This event would not be possible without their generous donations and the contributions of Girl Scout Troops 10533 and 10616 and Boy Scout Troop 108 from Immaculate Conception Church. About Humboldt Park

Originally named South Park, Humboldt Park was one of six parks created when the City of Milwaukee established a Parks Commission in 1890. The original 45-acre park opened in 1891 and a picturesque lagoon and adjoining creek were excavated two years later.  In 1900, the park was renamed Humboldt Park in honor of Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt, a Prussian geographer and naturalist who did extensive work on botanical geography. Humboldt Park continues to be a center point of the Bay View neighborhood providing a wealth of events and accessible nature within an urban park setting.
