Bayou’s State, an original aerial dance/theater piece by choreographer and performer Andrea Chastant Burkholder, explores her Cajun heritage as she travels through the declining Louisiana coastline, and it’s swamps and marshlands via an aerial net, bungee cords, and trapeze. Combining personal story, aerial and modern dance, theater, and river photography by Milwaukee artist, Eddee Daniel, Bayou’s State reflects on Louisiana’s coastal land loss as it relates to the local culture and environment. Begin the evening enjoying a traditional south Louisiana meal cooked by Andrea and her Cajun father as you sit nestled between the development along the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan. Following dinner will be the performance and then light dessert and discussion with the artists. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Limited seating

Bay View Community Center (BVCC) is holding their 20th Annual Beer Tasting and Live Auction Benefit at 6:00pm on April 21, 2016 at the South Shore Yacht Club. The Bay View Community Center is a non-for-profit organization that serves individuals and families in southeastern Wisconsin. The center provides classes for children, activities for seniors, family events, and health enrichment programs for adults. Additionally, the special programs of Emergency Food, Infant Formula Pantry and Food Pantry are funded by community efforts and events such as the Annual Beer Tasting and Live Auction. As a non-profit organization, the Center’s success is truly a community effort. The theme for this year’s annual beer tasting is Craft Beer and Artisan Sausage. The dinner will feature a variety of locally made sausages, including vegetarian options, paired with craft beers and hard ciders from local and national breweries. The Milwaukee Pretzel Company has graciously donated locally made Bavarian style soft pretzels to snack on as well. Lake Park Bistro welcomes Champagne Jacquart Head Winemaker Floriane Eznack for an exclusive dinner paired with their delightful Champagnes on Wednesday, April 27. James Beard Award-winning chef Adam Siegel has created the menu and will lead the kitchen during the event. Champagne Jacquart, based in Reims in the heart of Champagne, is one of the region's most dynamic and forward looking producers. Part of the Alliance Champagne Group, they have the largest area of vineyards in Champagne at their disposal. With access to a diverse and plentiful supply of quality grapes, Jacquart's winemakers are able to choose and then blend wines that reflect the character of the different terroirs, producing final cuvées that each have a distinctive style and personality. Head winemaker Floriane Eznack grew up close to Bordeaux and was introduced to the fascinating world of wine tasting by her father. She earned a Masters Degree in Oenology in Reims in 2004 and has studied harvests at some of Champagne’s finest houses including Moet. Floriane has been head winemaker for Jacquart since 2011 and has travelled extensively and experienced different countries and cultures. She is an enthusiastic ambassador for Champagne Jacquart. Find out more »Milwaukee Chefs for Homeless Vets: Waffle House Re-Imagined
Eleven top Milwaukee chefs will host a benefit dinner Monday May 23 with original gourmet dishes inspired by the popular Waffle House’s menu to raise funds for the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative. Two of the event’s chefs are vets, some of the kitchen staff are recent vets and other chefs are in military families. The chefs and staff want to raise money for homeless vets, inspire recent vets to get back on their feet and make more people aware of the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative (MHVI) and encourage greater community involvement. “Milwaukee Chefs for Homeless Vets: Waffle House Re-Imagined” takes place from 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. at Merriment Social, 240 E Pittsburgh Ave., Milwaukee. The evening will feature the chefs at stations serving their unique Waffle House-inspired creations. Another station will serve Waffle House-inspired adult beverages. Tickets are $150 and include food and drinks (wine, beer and cocktail options). Seating is limited.
