Milwaukee Repertory Theater Summer Play Festival

Calling all teen actors, directors, designers, and stage managers! From July 11-July 23, work with other teens to create a full-fledged theatrical production in just two weeks! Then perform it onstage at Milwaukee's premiere professional theater! This summer, get a taste of being a member of a professional theatrical company by participating in The Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Summer Play Festival. Teens will get the chance to take part in every step of the production process during an intensive two weeks guided by professional theater staff. Their capstone project will be to mount a performance in the Milwaukee Rep’s Stiemke Studio that is acted, directed, designed, and produced by teens. Students will receive professional training aspects of theater each morning, and will apply the techniques during afternoon rehearsals. This is a WONDERFUL opportunity for students to receive intense theater training in all facets of production! Choose your track and immerse yourself in it! Partial need-based scholarships are available. MARN is partnering with Creative Capital to offer a year-long webinar series to teach creatives the business, marketing and management skills needed to be independent professionals. Led by arts consultant Susan Koblin Schear, this webinar will define what values and guiding principles are, and why they are important to and for you. Examples of values and guiding principles will be shared. Developing and implementing goals will also be addressed and supplemented with examples and best practices. Finally, values-based goals will be examined and discussed in depth, substantiated by examples, as this may be or is a new concept to many artists participating in the webinar. This webinar is for you and about you. Be prepared to share, engage, learn and work towards enhancing your business practice. Webinars are instructed in real-time, giving MARN participants the opportunity to ask questions. Webinars are also recorded by Creative Capital and will be shared with each MARN participant. SMPAC presents artists sponsored by Classic Cargo International, Inc. at SM Market at 11th & Milwaukee Ave. Tweed Funk with Joseph “Smokey” Holman consists of some of Milwaukee’s top notch horn players. ”With a fascinating story singing with soul greats at both Motown and Stax during it’s heyday, Smokey’s been bringing his trademark sound to the blues in Tweed Funk.” Formed in late 2010, Tweed Funk’s national ascent has been driven by their horn-fueled, Memphis flavored blues, roots, and soul. This Milwaukee, Wisconsin 6 piece soul-blues revue is fronted by Joseph “Smokey” Holman, who recorded under Curtis Mayfield in the early 70’s. Tweed Funk boasts 5 Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Wins in the last 4 years for the band and its members. Building on the success of their 2014 CD Release, Tweed Funk is releasing a new album “Come Together” in the spring of 2016 consisting of 10 new original tunes.

The Select Gardens of Greenfield Garden Tour

This is a self guided tour of 5 unique gardens in the City of Greenfield, including Will Radler's Rosarium! Will is the nationally renowned developer of the Knockout Rose (tm). All of the gardens feature extensive landscaping, perennial beds and native grasses. UWEX Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions. Tickets are available at Greenfield City Hall, Greenfield Library and Bluemel's Garden Center for $10 prior to the tour. Day of tour they are $12 at the Greenfield Library. Modern advertising was revolutionized during this time and brewers took advantage in order to convince a thirsty public that their brews were the best. This resulted in iconic images, elaborate signage, and unforgettable slogans that are still used today.
