Black Nativity is a heartwarming and moving gospel song play by Langston Hughes. The power of gospel music, telling the story of this beloved, family friendly classic that began with the first star in Bethlehem almost two thousand years ago. Black Nativity 2016 will link this story of hope to relevant themes occurring throughout our community and the country today. Directed by Bronzeville Arts Ensemble’s Producing Artistic Director, Malkia Stampley. Music direction by Antoine Reynolds, choreography by Marvette Knight. Black Nativity is Co-Produced by Black Arts MKE and Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

This ever-popular event, named to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s “Fifteen Top Holiday Concerts in Milwaukee” list in 2015, will once again fill the Basilica of St. Josaphat. Performed by Bel Canto and accompanied by Kevin Bailey on the organ and Stained Glass Brass, this year’s concert includes the premiere of a work by Christian Ellenwood along with the traditional carols and songs of the season that people have come to know and love. Our annual celebration of Christmas features music that focuses on the awe-inspiring aspects of that most special of nights. Selections include Carl Schalk’s “Before the Marvel of This Night” and the favorite of adults and children alike, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, John Rutter, Morten Lauridsen and William Levi Dawson plus other holiday favorites and sing-along carols are also planned. As always, join us after the concert for cookies, punch and Christmas raffle!
